I'm still not convinced it always works. For the longest time I thought mine was broken but then, like you, I went really low and it came on. Sure enough, it only needed about 16gallons to fill (whereas we have 17ish in a tank. That being said, the next time I went out to the drag track, I tried to run it low to save weight (!) and in doing so, I ran out of gas. I watched the damn light the ENTIRE trip out making sure it wasn't just the grade of the hills and such making the light stay off. I got off the freeway just 1 mile form the track and the car started to sputter. Already pushing my luck and being a jackass, I turned it off instantly (so as not to suck up anymore gunk into my injectors than I may have already done). No light, no nothing. I was baffled. I'm still baffled. I just don't trust it anymore nor should anyone given the risk you run of wrecking some/all of your injectors by pulling up garbage from the bottom of your tank. When it's on E, fill it.
